Training
Axiom Maths provides induction training for all new mentors, plus regular professional development sessions throughout the year. A full timetable of professional development opportunities is published every academic year. Your Axiom Maths point of contact will keep you updated on what's coming up.
Session resources
For every maths circle session, you'll find:
- Guidance notes, including a session overview, what to look and listen for, and how to bring out the maths from pupils.
- A short introductory video covering the intention of the session, key learning points, possible pitfalls, and resourcing ideas.
- Optional task videos for individual problems, particularly useful for more challenging problems or less experienced mentors, including Junior Mentors.
The Axiom Maths Hub
The Hub is where MExCs and mentors can add pupils, set up groups, submit and track attendance and access materials for each session. It also contains several valuable professional development resources.
On the Hub you'll find:
- Curriculum guidance, including support on specific topic areas.
- Pedagogical guidance and best practice videos.
- A dedicated training package for Junior Mentors.
Programme development visits
One of the highlights of our professional development offer is the programme development visit. An Axiom Maths staff member comes to your school to observe your circle and support your development as a mentor. Every visit ends with a conversation focused on your strengths, your next steps as a mentor, and how to grow and strengthen the programme within your school.
We're also trialling coaching visits from Axiom Maths Ambassadors (some of our most experienced mentors) to share what they've learned and develop best practice across the programme.
