Why maths?
Maths gives your child the edge in life. The world is changing: new technology and advancing AI are making maths more powerful than ever.
Mathematicians are in high demand. People with a maths A Level already earn 10% more than other people in similar roles. People with a maths degree already earn £500,000 more over their lifetime than people with another degree.
Being excellent at maths gives your child the edge in whatever they want to do. Every field and profession is becoming more mathematical, from technology and medicine to film and music. Excelling in maths can take your child to the frontier of whatever field they want to be in.
But we know that lots of children, as they settle into secondary school, face a crisis of confidence in maths. They may feel like they’re not good enough because they’re not the very best in the class, or like they need to choose between being a ‘maths person’ and an ‘arts person’. They might just go through a spell of getting bored or get turned off by a topic they don’t enjoy. Axiom Maths is here to provide the support and motivation they need to stay on track.
Maths circles make a difference
Maths circles are small groups of children who come together to enjoy doing difficult maths. It’s like being in a sports team or a band, not like having an extra lesson.
In maths circles pupils do challenging maths that deepens their understanding beyond what’s possible in the classroom curriculum. They follow a carefully designed programme of problems, written by our expert team and delivered by a trained mentor. This runs all the way up to GCSE, ensuring that your child will be ready to excel in and beyond their exams.
Being in a small group also allows the mentor to provide a completely different experience to that of a classroom. Maths circles also create a peer group of young people who share a passion for mathematics and support each other to succeed.
Axiom Maths online programme
- Axiom Maths delivers high-quality, online maths circles alongside the in-school programme.
- Your child’s teacher can nominate eligible Year 7 pupils each year to join our fully-funded and interactive sessions which run up to Year 11.
- Pupils located near our regional partners can also access maths circles through our blended model, which combines online and in-person learning.
- Delivered by experienced online mentors via our interactive platform, sessions are engaging, collaborative, and academically stretching.
- Pupils benefit from flexible scheduling and can join from anywhere, removing geographical barriers to participation.
Axiom Maths school programme
- Your child will be selected by their teacher to attend weekly maths circles in school.
- A member of school staff will be a mentor: delivering high-quality maths circles each week and guiding the group through the curriculum.
- Maths circles run from September in Year 7 throughout the academic year, with the aim to of supporting pupils up to Year 11.
- There will be exciting opportunities for the maths circle to attend in-person events run by Axiom Maths including Maths Camps and Rising Mathematician Festivals.
