We want to commit to your pupils from Year 7 to Year 11, so Axiom Maths provides a grant to all schools running in-school maths circles. Schools nominating pupils for the online programme do not receive a grant.
Each school receives at least £2,997 per year (2025/26).
How funding works year by year
We double-fund schools in their first year because setting up something new takes time and resource. In the second year, the grant covers delivery of two maths circles. From the third year, the grant increases by £1,000 for each new year group.
- Year 1: £2,997 (covers Year 7 circle and setup)
- Year 2: £2,997 (covers Years 7 and 8 circles)
- Year 3: £3,997 (£2,997 + £1,000 for the new Year 7 cohort)
- Year 4: £4,997 (£2,997 + £2,000 for the two additional year groups)
- Year 5: £5,997 (£2,997 + £3,000 for the three additional year groups)
If running more year groups at your school isn't feasible, we'll work with you to find a solution, such as transferring pupils to the online programme or sourcing an external mentor.

How schools use the funding
Schools have flexibility in how the grant is spent, as long as it supports delivery of the programme. Common uses include:
- A Teaching and Learning Responsibility (TLR) payment for those leading maths circles.
- Timetable capacity to run sessions during the school day.
- Transport for pupils who need it.
- Maths trips, enrichment activities or retention incentives.
We encourage senior leaders and the staff leading circles to work together to agree how the grant is used.
When is funding paid?
The grant is split into two equal instalments.
First instalment — paid shortly after October half-term, once:
- At least 6 pupils per year group are registered on the Hub.
- The register for the first session of each year group has been completed.
Second instalment — paid shortly after the end of the Spring term, once:
- At least 15 of the 30 curriculum sessions are complete.
- Registers are completed and attendance is being monitored.
