Getting started: preparing your device for online classes

This guide covers the essential setup requirements for our online classes. Here is everything you need to know so you are ready to start your first online maths circle.

  1. Check your Device

Check that your device meets Vedamo's system requirements:

  • Use a laptop, desktop, or tablet (mobile phones are not recommended).
  • Use the latest version of your web browser – Google Chrome is our recommended platform but the platform also works with MS Edge version 90+, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari (required on iPhones or iPads).
  • Compatible devices include those running on Windows (7, 8, 8.1, 10 or 11), MacOS (12.5.5 or higher), Android (5.0 or higher).

  1. Test your Internet Connection

Run a speed test (here) to ensure your connection is fast and stable enough for a virtual classroom environment. At least 10 Mbps download and upload speed is ideal. If the speed is slow or inconsistent:

  • Use a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi for better reliability.
  • Close unnecessary apps or devices using the internet.
  • Position yourself closer to the Wi-Fi router to increase connection strength.

  1. Set Up your Audio and Video

Vedamo relies on clear audio and video so get these ready in order to be seen and heard clearly:

  • We recommend using a headset with a built-in microphone for clear communication. but the built-in laptop microphones should work well. We do recommend that you minimise background noise as much as possible.
  • Connect an external webcam if your device doesn’t have one built in.
  • Test your microphone and camera work before your session. You can check this in your device’s settings.
