Tips for successful online learning

This page provides easy tips to help you have a successful online learning experience. These tips include how to effectively join discussions, create a distraction-free environment, manage interruptions and seek help when you need it. The steps will make your virtual learning experience enjoyable and help you develop great skills!

1. Create a quiet learning space

  • Choose a spot with minimal distractions, away from noise and interruptions.
  • Use headphones, if possible, to help you focus.

2. Be prepared before each session

  • Log in to your device a few minutes early to check your internet connection and set up your workspace.
  • Have a notebook, pen, and any other materials you may need as this means you won’t have to search for the equipment during the session

3. Stay engaged & participate

  • Take part in discussions and group work – learning is more effective when you're actively involved!
  • Use the interactive whiteboard to show your workings and explain your reasoning- this can develop your articulation skills and helps your circle learn from each other.

4. Minimise distractions

  • Turn off notifications on your device so you can stay focussed
  • Let family members know when you’re in a session so they don’t interrupt.

5. Ask questions & seek help

  • Don’t hesitate to ask your mentor or other pupils if you need help or don’t understand something.
